The Oromia Improved Cook Stove Association has innovated and distributed numerous energy technologies, including well-known fuel-saving technologies. All our members have undergone capacity-building training in various technologies, personal development, and leadership through support from stakeholders and partners.
Our improved cook stove initiative is designed to be profitable, feasible, and beneficial for all involved. We aim to empower Ethiopia’s underdeveloped communities through Clean Improved Cook Stove technologies, positioning ourselves as the leading provider in the Oromia Region and beyond.

Our History
Founded in 2013, the Oromia Improved Cook Stove Association is a rural energy service organization established by 43 producers and marketers of improved cook stoves. Over the past three years, we have successfully sold over 3 million Mirt Injera stoves, serving various zones and woredas throughout the Oromia region. Our products are designed to meet the needs of low-income households, enabling them to pay for energy services through savings or additional income.
Our experience with improved cook stoves will also pave the way for promoting other technologies, such as cleaner cook stoves, biogas systems, LPG stoves, ethanol stoves, and electric stoves—linking communities to a better quality of life through sustainable energy.
The Oromia Improved Cook Stove Association provides reliable energy services to households sustainably and creates models for poverty alleviation through commercial channels. Our approach combines doorstep service with financing, partnering with like-minded organizations, financial institutions, and NGOs to reach underserved communities.

The products that Oromia improved Cook Stoves association is promoting are Electric ring stoves for cooking and baking, Ethanol Stoves, Biogas Stoves and LPG Stoves and to a lesser lever MIRT Injera Baking Biomass Stoves. Goals and Objectives
The goals of Oromia improved Cook Stoves association (OCCSA) is to be an efficient Association to implement the activities and to do it in a way that the Association is financially profitable and therefore sustainable, so that the Association and its members have a low risk and safe business, that customers get a good product and services and society as a whole gets a positive impact.
OCCSA strategy responds to the fragmented nature of the market and respects the unique strengths of the community, including the role that local business plays in strengthening local community.
Objectives
- To introduce better quality long life clean cook stoves for individual and institutional customers in rural and sub-urban and urban areas in the Oromia region of Ethiopia.
- To reduce CO2 emissions in Ethiopia
- To give a positive input to the local economy and Environment by creating employment especially for Women.
- To finance with a part of the profit, the non-‐profit activities of the region and support the Climate Resilience and Green Economy Plan of Ethiopia.
Our main objective is to engage with Ethiopia's Green Economy pillars, which are:
- Agriculture: Improving crop and livestock production practices for higher food security and farmer income while reducing emissions;
- Forestry: Protecting and re-establishing forests for their economic and ecosystem services including as carbon stocks;
- Power: Expanding electricity generation form renewable energy for domestic and regional markets; and
- Transport, industrial sectors and buildings: Leapfrogging to modern and energy efficient technologies.
Expanding access to modern and clean cooking energy services and electrification is an essential cornerstone of this transformation effort.
